Shalom,
We began this month with the marking of Yom Ha’Atzmaut ( Israel Independence Day) , which brings us closer to the conclusion of our school year (which is on Shavuot-(June 2nd) During May, our students focused on learning more about Israel and Zionism. All our students learned about kibbutzim, Aliyah and Israel geography. Our students in grades 3-7 learned about customs and readings associated with Shavuot. In addition, with the use of BabagaNewz, they learned about Jewish American life from colonial to present times.
In May, our family program focused on learning about Israel and Israel’s geography. Rabbi Selch and our teachers talked to our students about their experiences visiting and living in Israel. With the help of Rabbi Charni Selch and our teachers our students created two huge Israel maps made of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Various edible decorations were used to signify Israeli cities and towns, seas, mountains, and desert areas. The students identified what they had learned on the ice cream map and then ate their hard work. Ice cream consumption was enjoyed by all.
Special thanks to Anna Foer, who has worked with our students on craft projects they can present at graduation.
During this month our teachers have continued to work with our students on Kabbalat Shabbat prayers. Also, we sung many niggunim (melodies) for Lecha Dodi.
Also of note: our students in grades 3-7 with the help of our teachers Ms. Friedler and Mr. Becker have been working on creating a game of all that they have learned this year, We have also presented our students with information about Camp Ramah ( the USCJ overnight summer camp) and Habonim Dror Camp Moshava (Zionist overnight camp).
For your calendars
B’Shalom
